Reasons to Be Thankful for HVAC

Thanksgiving is nearly here. It's time to take a moment to express gratitude. Are you thankful for the comforts of home? For that warm feeling you get when surrounded by family and friends? The energy that keeps your household going during difficult times? Then it looks like the thing you're most thankful for is your HVAC system.

The Comforts of Home

Florida isn't like other states, where as soon as November hits, you go out into the crisp air wearing a jacket and scarf. This Thanksgiving is likely to be pretty warm. However, that doesn't mean you won't need your HVAC system.

In addition to controlling temperature, your home's HVAC system can also control the humidity. When things get muggy and damp, your HVAC system can remove moisture from the air, to make things more comfortable.

Any furnace or A/C will reduce humidity, but if you have whole-house humidity control, you'll be even more thankful. That's because humidity control isn't just about home’s comfort, but your health as well. High humidity can foster mold and mildew, as well as bacteria. Not only does this exacerbate asthma and allergies, it can lead to colds and flus as well.

Whole-house humidity control lets you set your ideal moisture level for your home, not only for comfort, but to keep your humidity in the goldilocks zone - not too high, and not too low. That means between about 30 and 50 percent, where mold and bacteria won't thrive.

Finally, your HVAC system keeps you healthy in another way. The air filter removes contaminants that can make you sick - including the mold and mildew mentioned above. It can also get rid of dust, pet hair, carpet fibers, and much more. So, take a deep breath and be thankful. Your HVAC system is looking out for you.

Energy in Difficult Times

This might seem a bit facetious, but it's not. We're living in difficult times right now. Climate change threatens our way of life. We all need to do our part to reduce our carbon footprint. And the biggest consumer of energy in most households is the HVAC system.

Why is that a reason to be thankful? Well, because more efficient furnaces and A/Cs are being developed all the time. Today's HVAC systems use much less energy than the models of a few years ago - while providing the same amount of comfort. From smart thermostats to variable-speed air handlers to zoning systems, there are all sorts of new features and technologies that help it run better, last longer, and reduce your carbon footprint. Your HVAC system can help save the planet!

That Warm Feeling

Just because you don't need your heater at Thanksgiving doesn't mean you won't need it at other times in the year. When the temperature gets lower in winter, you'll be thankful you have it. Then next summer, when things heat up again, you'll be grateful for the cool.

So why not be thankful now, for all the hard work your system has done? Your HVAC system has gotten you through some hard times, and it will get you through plenty more in years to come. Why not take a minute this holiday season to appreciate all it does for you? Doesn't that give you a warm feeling inside?
